KILIMANJARO CLIMBING ITINERARY - MACHAME ROUTE
Day 0: Arrival in Moshi
Arrive in the vibrant town of Moshi, located at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro, where you’ll be greeted by your guide and transferred to a luxurious lodge. Spend the day relaxing and acclimatising to the altitude. Explore local attractions like the National Museum or markets if time permits. In the evening, attend a pre-climb briefing, enjoy a delicious Tanzanian dinner, and prepare for your trek.
Day 1: Moshi to Machame Camp
After breakfast, head to Machame Gate to officially begin your trek. The trail winds through lush rainforests teeming with wildlife, providing a vibrant and refreshing start. The hike to Machame Camp (3,000m) takes 5-7 hours. End your day with a warm dinner, storytelling under the stars, and preparation for the next stage.
Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp
Start your day trekking through beautiful moorlands, reaching Shira Camp (3,840m) after 5-6 hours. Admire panoramic views of Kilimanjaro and its surroundings. Encounter unique plants like giant lobelias, making this stretch of the journey particularly scenic. Relax and enjoy your evening, preparing for the adventure ahead.
Day 3: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp
Hike through the Shira Plateau, gradually ascending to Barranco Camp (3,960m). The trek takes 6-7 hours and showcases diverse ecosystems and mesmerizing views. Descend into Barranco Valley before reaching camp. Marvel at the towering Barranco Wall, which you’ll tackle the following day.
Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Conquer the iconic Barranco Wall in the morning—a thrilling climb that offers spectacular views. Continue trekking to Karanga Camp (4,000m) through varied landscapes, completing the journey in 4-5 hours. Rest, enjoy a warm meal, and acclimatise further for the upcoming summit attempt.
Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Begin the 4-5 hour trek to Barafu Camp (4,640m), your base for the summit push. Navigate rocky terrain while soaking in awe-inspiring vistas. Upon arrival, enjoy an early dinner and rest well to prepare for the pre-dawn climb to Uhuru Peak.
Day 6: Summit Day – Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak – Descent to Moshi
Start before dawn for the final ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895m). Witness a stunning sunrise as you approach the summit, capturing unforgettable moments. After celebrating your achievement, descend to Barafu Camp for a brief rest, then continue to Mweka Camp for a celebratory dinner.
Day 7: Moshi to Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA)
Enjoy breakfast and, depending on your schedule, explore Moshi’s cultural attractions or visit Materuni Waterfall. Later, transfer to KIA for departure, bringing home memories of an extraordinary adventure.
