KILIMANJARO CLIMBING ITINERARY - MARANGU ROUTE
Day 0: Arrival in Moshi
Begin your journey in the vibrant town of Moshi, located at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel for a restful night. Spend the day exploring local markets or soaking in views of Kilimanjaro. A pre-climb briefing will provide essential details about your upcoming adventure, helping you prepare mentally and physically. This day is crucial for acclimatization and any last-minute preparations.
Day 1: Moshi to Marangu Gate – Mandara Hut
Start your ascent after breakfast, traveling to the Marangu Gate for registration. The trek kicks off with a scenic walk through lush rainforests teeming with vibrant flora and fauna. The 4-5 hour hike leads to Mandara Hut, located at 2,700 meters. Here, you’ll enjoy a warm meal and relax in the hut, surrounded by the tranquil beauty of the forest.
Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
After an early breakfast, continue your journey to Horombo Hut at 3,720 meters. This 6-8 hour trek transitions from dense rainforest to the moorland zone, where unique flora like giant lobelias and senecio plants thrive. The gradual ascent is perfect for acclimatization, with stunning views of Mawenzi Peak along the way. Settle in at Horombo Hut for dinner and a peaceful night’s rest.
Day 3: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut
This day is dedicated to acclimatization, a crucial step in your Kilimanjaro climb. A short trek to Zebra Rocks or Mawenzi Ridge will help your body adjust to the altitude while offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Return to Horombo Hut for lunch, spending the afternoon hydrating and resting in preparation for the challenges ahead.
Day 4: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
Today’s trek leads to Kibo Hut, situated at 4,703 meters. The 6-8 hour journey takes you through the stark, lunar-like landscape of the alpine desert. Upon arrival, rest and prepare for the final push to the summit. An early dinner is served to ensure adequate rest before the midnight climb to Uhuru Peak.
Day 5: Summit Day – Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak
The most demanding and rewarding part of your journey begins with a midnight ascent to Uhuru Peak. The steep, 6-8 hour trek requires slow, steady progress, focusing on breathing and hydration. Reaching the summit at 5,895 meters is a moment of triumph, offering awe-inspiring views of the African landscape. After a brief celebration, descend to Kibo Hut and then Horombo Hut for a well-earned rest and dinner.
Day 6: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate – To Moshi
Conclude your adventure with a 5-6 hour descent to Marangu Gate. Reflect on your incredible journey as you receive your summit certificate. Transfer back to Moshi for an overnight stay, where you can unwind and share your experiences over a farewell dinner.
