KILIMANJARO CLIMBING ITINERARY - MARANGU ROUTE
Day 0: Arrival in Moshi
Arrive in Moshi, a charming town at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. Transfer to your hotel, where you can relax and prepare for your climb. Spend the day exploring the local culture, visiting markets, or enjoying views of the mountain.
A pre-climb briefing will provide essential information about the climb and what to expect. Enjoy a hearty dinner and get a good night’s rest in anticipation of the adventure ahead. This initial day is crucial for acclimatization and allows you to gather any last-minute supplies.
Day 1: Moshi to Marangu Gate – Mandara Hut
After breakfast, transfer to the Marangu Gate for registration. The trek begins with a scenic hike through lush rainforest. Enjoy the vibrant flora and fauna as you ascend to Mandara Hut, situated at an altitude of 2,700 meters.
This section of the trail is well-maintained, making it accessible for climbers of varying abilities. The walk typically takes around 4-5 hours, providing ample time to enjoy the stunning views along the way. Upon arrival at the hut, settle into your accommodation and enjoy a warm meal, while soaking in the beauty of your surroundings.
Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
Rise early for breakfast, then continue your ascent towards Horombo Hut at 3,720 meters. This day is vital for acclimatization, allowing your body to adjust to higher altitudes.
The trek takes approximately 6-8 hours and transitions from rainforest to moorland, showcasing the unique flora of Kilimanjaro, including giant lobelias and the fascinating senecio plants.
Along the way, take breaks to admire the stunning views of Mawenzi Peak. Upon arrival at Horombo Hut, enjoy dinner and prepare for a restful night before the next leg of the journey.
Day 3: Acclimatisation Day at Horombo Hut
This day is dedicated to acclimatisation, an essential part of your Kilimanjaro experience. After breakfast, take a short hike to Zebra Rocks or nearby Mawenzi Ridge.
This trek allows your body to adjust to the altitude while offering spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Return to Horombo Hut for lunch, and spend the afternoon relaxing and hydrating.
Acclimatization is critical for a successful summit attempt, so take this time to prepare mentally and physically for the challenge ahead.
Day 4: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
Today, trek from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut at an elevation of 4,703 meters. The journey typically takes around 6-8 hours, transitioning from the moorland to alpine desert.
As you climb, you’ll notice the landscape becoming more arid and rockier, signaling your approach to the summit zone. Upon reaching Kibo Hut, rest and prepare for the final ascent.
Dinner will be served early to ensure you are well-rested for the challenging climb to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Kilimanjaro, which begins late at night.
Day 5: Summit Day – Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak
The most challenging yet rewarding day begins with an early wake-up call. After a light breakfast, commence the ascent to Uhuru Peak.
This section is steep and can be physically demanding, so take it slowly, focusing on your breathing and hydration. The trek typically takes 6-8 hours to reach the summit.
Once at Uhuru Peak, revel in the achievement and breathtaking views across the African landscape. After a brief celebration, begin the descent back to Kibo Hut, followed by a further descent to Horombo Hut for a well-deserved rest and dinner.
Day 6: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate – To Moshi
After breakfast at Horombo Hut, begin your final descent to Marangu Gate. This hike usually takes about 5-6 hours, allowing for reflection on your remarkable journey.
Upon arrival at the gate, celebrate your achievement with your team and receive your summit certificate. Transfer back to Moshi for overnight stay, where you can unwind and share stories of your adventure.
Enjoy a farewell dinner and prepare for your departure, carrying unforgettable memories of your Kilimanjaro experience.
Day 7: Farewell & Memories
Early after breakfast regarding to the flight schedule you can do city tour/ cultural tour late at afternoon transfer direct to Kilimanjaro International airport for departure
