KILIMANJARO CLIMBING ITINERARY - LEMOSHO ROUTE

Day 0: Arrival in Moshi

Upon your arrival in Moshi, the vibrant gateway to Kilimanjaro, you will be greeted by your guide and transferred to your hotel. Use this day to acclimatize to the lower altitude, allowing your body to adjust before the climb begins.

Depending on your arrival time, you might explore local attractions like the bustling markets or the National Museum. Enjoy a delicious dinner, filled with traditional Tanzanian cuisine, and participate in a pre-climb briefing where your guide will discuss the itinerary and answer any questions you may have, ensuring you’re well-prepared for the adventure ahead.

Day 1: Moshi to Rongai Gate – Trek to Simba Cam

After breakfast, you will drive to the Rongai Gate, a journey of approximately 2 hours. Here, you’ll complete the registration process before starting your trek. The hike to Simba Camp, located at 2,600 meters, takes about 4-5 hours and leads through beautiful pine forests.

As you trek, take in the serene surroundings and look for wildlife such as monkeys and various bird species. Upon arrival at Simba Camp, set up your tents, relax, and enjoy a hearty dinner while sharing stories under the starlit sky, preparing for the days of adventure that lie ahead.

Day 2: Simba Camp to Second Cave Camp

Following breakfast, you’ll begin the trek to the Second Cave Camp, located at 3,450 meters. This hike takes about 3-4 hours and offers stunning views of the surrounding valleys and Kilimanjaro’s peaks. The trail gradually ascends through open moorlands, allowing you to appreciate the unique flora, including giant heathers and lobelias.

Once you reach Second Cave Camp, set up your tents and enjoy lunch while soaking in the breathtaking landscapes. The afternoon is reserved for acclimatization, so take the time to relax and explore the area. As evening falls, enjoy dinner and prepare for the next day’s journey.

Day 3: Second Cave Camp to Third Cave Camp

After breakfast, you will trek to the Third Cave Camp, situated at 3,850 meters. This hike generally takes 3-4 hours and features stunning panoramic views of the Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. As you ascend, you will experience the changing landscapes from moorland to alpine desert.

Upon arrival at Third Cave Camp, enjoy a well-deserved lunch and take some time to rest. The afternoon can be spent exploring the area or engaging in light activities to aid acclimatization.

Day 4: Third Cave Camp to Kibo Camp

This ascent is crucial for acclimatization, so take your time and stay hydrated. Upon arrival at Kibo Camp, set up your tents and enjoy lunch.

The afternoon is designated for rest, as you will be starting your summit attempt later that night. Have an early dinner and ensure all your gear is ready for the ascent. Rest well, knowing the summit is within reach.

Day 5: Summit Day – Kibo Camp to Uhuru Peak – Descent to Horombo Camp

Awake around midnight to begin your summit push to Uhuru Peak. After a light breakfast, set off for the ascent, which typically takes 6-8 hours. The climb is steep and demanding, but the thrill of reaching the summit drives you forward. As dawn approaches, enjoy breathtaking views of the sunrise illuminating the landscape.

Upon reaching Uhuru Peak, take time to celebrate your achievement and capture memorable photographs. Afterward, begin your descent to Horombo Camp, which takes around 4-5 hours.

Day 6: Horombo Camp to Marangu Gate – Transfer to Moshi

After breakfast at Horombo Camp, you will start your descent to Marangu Gate, which takes approximately 5-6 hours. As you trek through the lush rainforest, look for local wildlife and enjoy the changing scenery.

Upon reaching the Marangu Gate, complete the check-out process and receive your summit certificates, marking your successful climb. A vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to Moshi, where you can unwind at your hotel and celebrate your achievement.

Day 7: Departure from Moshi

After check-out, your guide will assist you with your transfer to the airport for your onward journey.
