OVERVIEW

The Rongai Route is a remarkable and unique way to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, offering a scenic and less crowded experience. Unlike other Kilimanjaro routes, the Rongai trail begins on the northern side of Kilimanjaro, near the Kenya-Tanzania border, making it one of the best routes for acclimatization. This route is known for its gradual ascent, making it ideal for climbers looking for an easier and highly scenic climb with diverse landscapes ranging from lush rainforests to alpine deserts.

This 6-day Kilimanjaro trek via Rongai Route gives climbers an unforgettable journey to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) while offering spectacular views of the Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. With its steady elevation gain, it provides excellent acclimatization, increasing your chances of reaching the summit successfully. The trek is complemented by a 2-night stay in a comfortable lodge before and after the climb, allowing for relaxation and preparation.

Day 0: Arrival in Moshi

Welcome to Moshi, the gateway to your Mount Kilimanjaro trekking adventure. Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), our guide will transfer you to a comfortable lodge in Moshi for a pre-climb briefing. This is an opportunity to discuss the Kilimanjaro trek, check your gear, and ask any questions before starting the journey. You can explore Moshi town, visit the local markets, or relax at your lodge before enjoying a delicious dinner with Tanzanian cuisine.

Day 1: Moshi to Rongai Gate – Trek to Simba Camp (2,600m)

Your Mount Kilimanjaro trek officially begins with a 2-hour drive from Moshi to Rongai Gate (1,950m). After registering, you’ll start trekking through lush pine forests, home to diverse wildlife, including colobus monkeys and colorful bird species. The trek takes about 4-5 hours to reach Simba Camp (2,600m), where you’ll settle in, have dinner, and rest under the starlit African sky.

Day 2: Simba Camp to Second Cave Camp (3,450m)

The journey continues with a 3-4 hour trek to Second Cave Camp, offering breathtaking views of the Kilimanjaro peaks and surrounding valleys. The trail transitions from dense forest to moorland, where you can witness unique plant species like giant lobelias and heathers. The afternoon is dedicated to acclimatization, ensuring a safer climb to higher altitudes.

Day 3: Second Cave Camp to Third Cave Camp (3,850m)

This moderate trekking day takes about 3-4 hours as you ascend to Third Cave Camp. Here, the terrain changes from moorland to an alpine desert, with panoramic views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. You’ll spend the afternoon relaxing and preparing for the summit push in the coming days.

Day 4: Third Cave Camp to Kibo Camp (4,700m)

Today’s trek takes 5-6 hours through rocky, barren landscapes, leading to Kibo Camp at the base of Kilimanjaro’s summit. Upon arrival, you’ll rest and refuel, preparing for the midnight summit attempt.

Day 5: Summit Day – Kibo Camp to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Descent to Horombo Camp (3,720m)

Summit day begins at midnight with a challenging but rewarding ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the Roof of Africa. Witness the breathtaking sunrise over Kilimanjaro, capturing unforgettable moments. After celebrating your successful Kilimanjaro summit, you’ll descend to Horombo Camp, where you’ll enjoy a well-earned rest and dinner.

Day 6: Horombo Camp to Marangu Gate – Transfer to Moshi

Your final trek takes 5-6 hours, descending through the rainforest before reaching Marangu Gate, where you’ll receive your Kilimanjaro summit certificate. A vehicle will transfer you back to Moshi for a celebratory evening.
