KILIMANJARO CLIMBING ITINERARY - LEMOSHO ROUTE
Day 0: Arrival in Moshi
Upon arrival in Moshi, a picturesque town at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, our friendly guide will welcome you and transfer you to a luxurious lodge for a restful night. This day allows you to acclimatize and explore the local culture. Visit Moshi’s markets, enjoy a traditional Tanzanian meal, and attend a detailed pre-climb briefing to prepare for your trekking adventure.
Day 1: Moshi to Lemosho Gate – Trek to Mti Mkubwa Camp
After breakfast, drive 2 hours to Lemosho Gate, the starting point of your Kilimanjaro trek. Complete park registration and begin your journey through lush rainforests, encountering exotic wildlife like blue monkeys and colobus monkeys. The 5-6 hour hike leads to Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,780m), where you will rest, enjoy dinner, and sleep under the African sky.
Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp
Today’s trek ascends through moorland landscapes, offering stunning views of Kilimanjaro’s Shira Plateau. The 5-6 hour hike takes you to Shira 1 Camp (3,600m), where you will settle in, enjoy warm meals, and witness an unforgettable sunset over the vast plains of Tanzania.
Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp – Acclimatization Day
This day serves as an important acclimatization hike to Shira Cathedral, a spectacular rock formation. Trekking for about 4-5 hours, you will explore the diverse landscapes of the Shira Plateau, marvel at giant lobelias, and return to Shira 2 Camp for rest and dinner under the stars.
Day 4: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp
Embark on a 6-7 hour hike to Barranco Camp (3,960m). This section traverses the Lava Tower (4,600m), a crucial point for acclimatization. The descent to Barranco Camp offers breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro’s glaciers and the impressive Barranco Wall.
Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Tackle the Barranco Wall, a thrilling climb requiring strategic steps and expert guidance. This exhilarating section leads to Karanga Camp (4,000m) in 4-5 hours, where you can rest, hydrate, and prepare for the next day’s climb.
Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Today’s 4-5 hour trek takes you to Barafu Camp (4,640m), the base camp for the final ascent. Enjoy a light dinner and sleep early in preparation for your midnight summit attempt.
Day 7: Summit Day – Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak – Descent to Mweka Camp
Start the summit push before dawn. The 6-8 hour ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) offers the most breathtaking sunrise views over Africa. Celebrate your achievement at the Roof of Africa before descending to Mweka Camp (3,100m) for the night.
Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate – Return to Moshi
Descend through lush rainforests to Mweka Gate, where you receive your summit certificate. Transfer to Moshi, where you will relax at a luxury lodge, celebrating your accomplishment.
Day 9: Leisure & Departure
Enjoy a city tour of Moshi, a visit to Materuni Waterfall, or simply relax at the lodge before heading to Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) for departure.
