KILIMANJARO CLIMBING ITINERARY - UMBWE ROUTE
Day 0: Arrival in Moshi
Arrive in Moshi, Tanzania, the gateway to Kilimanjaro National Park. Our team will welcome you at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transfer you to a luxurious lodge in Moshi for rest and acclimatization. If time allows, explore Moshi’s vibrant markets or visit the Materuni Waterfalls for a refreshing excursion. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Tanzanian meal and attend a pre-climb briefing, where your guide will explain the Kilimanjaro trekking itinerary, safety measures, and gear essentials.
Day 1: Moshi to Umbwe Gate – Trek to Umbwe Camp (2,850m)
Begin your Mount Kilimanjaro trek with a drive to Umbwe Gate (1,600m). After registration, embark on an intense 5-6 hour trek through dense rainforests, home to monkeys, tropical birds, and rich flora. As you ascend steep trails, admire towering trees, tangled vines, and the serene beauty of the jungle. Arriving at Umbwe Camp (2,850m), settle into your tent, enjoy a hot meal, and listen to the sounds of the forest as you rest for the night.
Day 2: Umbwe Camp to Barranco Camp (3,960m)
Wake up to fresh mountain air and a hearty breakfast before trekking towards Barranco Camp. This 6-7 hour journey ascends through steep ridges and rocky terrain, offering breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro’s valleys and glaciers. As you transition into the moorland zone, you’ll see unique vegetation like giant heathers and lobelias. At Barranco Camp, take in the stunning sunset view of the Barranco Wall, which you will conquer the next morning.
Day 3: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp (4,000m)
This day starts with the famous Barranco Wall climb, an exciting yet challenging 2-3 hour ascent that requires scrambling over rocky outcrops. Once at the top, admire panoramic views of the mountain’s glaciers and valleys. Continue trekking for another 2-3 hours through alpine desert landscapes until you reach Karanga Camp. Enjoy a nutritious meal, relax, and acclimatize to prepare for the high-altitude climb ahead.
Day 4: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp (4,600m)
Trek for 4-5 hours through barren, rocky terrain, leading to Barafu Camp, the final stop before Uhuru Peak. Here, you’ll receive a detailed summit briefing and enjoy an early dinner to fuel up for the midnight climb. Rest as much as possible to conserve energy for the final ascent.
Day 5: Summit Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Descent to Mweka Camp (3,100m)
Around midnight, begin your ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. The 6-8 hour trek is physically demanding but incredibly rewarding. Witness a magnificent sunrise over Kilimanjaro’s glaciers before reaching the iconic Uhuru Peak sign. Take celebratory photos before descending back to Barafu Camp for a short break, then continue to Mweka Camp (3,100m) for your final night on the mountain.
Day 6: Mweka Gate to Moshi – Certificate Award Ceremony
Descend through the lush rainforest for 3-4 hours until reaching Mweka Gate. Here, you will receive your Kilimanjaro summit certificates before heading back to Moshi. Relax in a luxury lodge, where you can enjoy a hot shower, massage, and gourmet meals. Celebrate your successful Kilimanjaro trek with fellow climbers.
Day 7: Departure – Optional Cultural Tour
